Year 1 Geography fieldwork
As a starter for our new unit on comparing countries and places people live, we started by conducting some fieldwork in the school grounds. The requirement was to look for features in the environment that were human and physical and explain why we think this. The children took their team bears with them to display what they have found.
Year 1 - Geography fieldwork
This session required the children from year 1 to make a journey stick showing signs of the seasons in the school grounds. The children worked with their friends to add items of nature to their journey stick they found on their walk. The children were able to recognise which were signs that we are in the season of winter, transitioning into spring.
As part of Year 1's geography unit, the children have been exploring compasses and compass points. The children learnt a new song to remind them of the compass points as well as a mnemonic, Never Eat Soggy Waffles.
The children went out into the playground and used the compass to work out what they can see when they turn each direction.
