Reduce Water Usage

What are we already doing?

Water butts: Water butts on Forest School site which collect rainwater to be used to water plants.

Promote water-wise habits: Teaching children the importance of water conservation encouraging children to turn off the tap when not being used.

Water efficient devices: In the 2024 Summer term, Severn Trent Water carried out a water efficiency survey at our school and changed all of the taps, urinals and toilets on site to be more water efficient.

Recent Water Metre Reading: DDAT have congratulated us on our recent water metre reading, as you can see in the table below, our overall consumption has reduced in the last few years.

What else can we do?

Water butts: More water butts around the school site, particularly in Spiritual Garden where water can be used for plants.

Water Week: During the week beginning the 2nd June 2025, we will be participating in 'Water Week' from 'The Pod'. Water Week (water-week.org) is a new global campaign being delivered in support of the UN Water Action Decade, to inspire the next generation of water conservationists. By taking part in the campaign your school is supporting delivery of the UN-Water Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

What can you do at home?

  • Turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth
  • Shorten your showers and change to a low-flow shower head
  • Fix any leaks as soon as possible
  • Consider a dual flush toilet
  • Use a water butt outside to collect water
  • Only run the dishwasher & washing machine with full loads
  • Only fill the kettle with the amount that you need
  • Insulate your pipes and thaw frozen pipes
